Boar figure. Polovtsy (?). X – XII centuries.

Made of sandstone, dimensions 45×90 cm. Found in a mound near the village of Andriyivka, Oleksandrivsky District, Katerynoslav Province, on the land of the peasant Girman. The body is bent, the muzzle is sharp, the legs are not separated – they are cut from two wide protrusions. In addition to monumental statues, zoomorphic sculptures were also found in Polovtsy sanctuaries and burials. The figure of a boar, which is a totem of pastoral tribes, embodies either the sacred fury of a warrior or the motives of fertility.
